Woman shares video of unexpected find deep in remote marsh: 'Never ceases to am…
A TikToker shared her frustration at being able to find trash left by people inside the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.
An environmental advocate, known as "ecofran" on social media, recently drew attention to the persistent issue of litter in protected natural areas after discovering a basketball in the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge. The advocate, who regularly participates in and documents restoration efforts, expressed her surprise and dismay at finding such an item in a remote location accessible primarily by boat. The Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge is a site where significant conservation work is underway, including the deployment of 100,000 pounds of recycled glass and the planting of bull rush to aid in marshland restoration. "This spot is quite remote, you can really only get here by boat," ecofran stated in her video, emphasizing the effort required for litter to reach such an isolated area. "Yet I find the most ridiculous litter out here. It's honestly incredible." The discovery of the basketball, which she playfully dubbed "Marsh-ket-ball" while attempting to shoot hoops, underscored the widespread impact of human waste, even in areas dedicated to wildlife and ecological preservation. The video aims to raise awareness about the importance of preventing littering to protect vital ecosystems.
