
Mexico City Enacts Total Alcohol Ban for Upcoming Elections
Mexico City Implements Dry Law for Judicial Elections Mexico City will observe a total alcohol ban, known as Ley Seca, from 00:00 hrs on Saturday, May 31st, to Sunday, June 1st, due to the upcoming Judicial Elections. This measure will affect all 16 boroughs of the city. Authorities are taking this step to ensure the safety and order of the elections. "The prohibition of alcohol sales and consumption is a preventative measure to maintain order and prevent incidents during the elections," said a representative from the Mexico City government. The Ley Seca will impact various establishments, including bars, restaurants, supermarkets, and liquor stores. However, hotels with special permits will be exempt. Authorities will deploy increased security personnel across the city to maintain order. Areas with total alcohol restrictions include Iztapalapa, Cuauhtémoc, Centro Histórico, Benito Juárez, and Coyoacán. Citizens are urged to plan accordingly. The dry law is expected to contribute to a peaceful election process.
