La Laguna's Streets Bloom with Stunning Corpus Christi Carpets
LA LAGUNA, TENERIFE – The streets of La Laguna, Tenerife, have been transformed into a vibrant open-air gallery for the annual Corpus Christi celebration. Intricate and colorful carpets, meticulously crafted from dyed marmolina (marble dust), flowers, and wood shavings, now adorn the city's pathways. Local associations, religious groups, and community members have dedicated countless hours to create these ephemeral artworks. "They are drawn on the ground, and then filled with a powder called marmolina, which is dyed in different colors," explained a local participant. "Some people start working on them from early morning, others even from the night before." The designs range from traditional religious symbols, such as chalices and crosses, to more contemporary messages and vibrant floral patterns. One notable carpet featured the year "2025" and the words "Corpus Christi," created by the Casino de La Laguna. Another impressive piece, made by the Catechesis of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, incorporated sunflowers and various colored elements. Visitors observed the artists at work, carefully spreading the colored materials to form precise designs. "It's incredible how they do this," commented a visitor, marveling at the detail and scale of the carpets. The tradition not only beautifies the city but also fosters a strong sense of community and shared heritage.
