Sleeping Fugitive Caught: One of Ten Escaped Inmates Apprehended in New Orleans
Ten inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans on May 16th, creating a city-wide manhunt. Authorities offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to their capture. One of the escapees, whose name has not been released, was apprehended on May 25th under unusual circumstances. A local resident reported seeing a man sleeping on a bench who appeared to match the description of one of the fugitives. Police responded and confirmed the man's identity. "He was just sleeping there," said a police officer on the scene. "It was a bit of a surprise." The escape itself involved the prisoners using a hole behind a toilet and sink in their cell. Four of the ten escapees have now been recaptured, leaving six still at large. The incident raises questions about security protocols at the Orleans Justice Center, which houses 1,400 inmates.
