Plumbing Professionals Address Common Drain Issues in Valencia Homes. Valencia, Spain - A local plumbing expert, known online as @elfontaJoan, has recently highlighted a prevalent issue affecting household drainage systems: negative pressure. This phenomenon, often leading to noisy shower drains, bubbling water, or even dry siphons, is a source of frustration for many homeowners. According to @elfontaJoan, the problem stems from inadequate ventilation in the main drainpipe. "When water drains, especially from a sink, it pulls air from within the pipes," he explained in a recent video. "If the main stack isn't properly ventilated, a vacuum forms, which then suctions the air from nearby siphons, causing them to unprime." This lack of proper ventilation can result in unpleasant odors and gurgling sounds. The solution proposed by the expert is the installation of an aeration valve, specifically mentioning a Jimten valve. "This valve is simple to install and effectively prevents the vacuum," he stated, demonstrating how the device opens under negative pressure to allow air in, thus maintaining the water seal in the siphon. The valve should be placed between the siphon and the drainpipe, ensuring its vertical position. While @elfontaJoan noted that traditional siphon pots are less common in Valencia's newer installations, the issue of negative pressure due to poor ventilation remains relevant. Homeowners experiencing similar problems are advised to consider improving their plumbing system's ventilation to avoid these common inconveniences.
