Madrid, Spain – The Spanish government is offering significant financial aid to vulnerable households through two key programs: the electricity social bonus and the thermal social bonus. These initiatives aim to alleviate the burden of energy costs for eligible citizens. The electricity social bonus provides a direct monthly discount on electricity bills, potentially covering up to 65% of the total, depending on the household's economic situation. This measure is designed to assist low-income individuals, pensioners, large families, and those receiving the minimum vital income. In addition to the electricity discount, the thermal social bonus offers a one-time annual payment ranging from €35 to €372. This aid is specifically intended to help with heating, hot water, or cooking expenses. Eligibility for the thermal social bonus is automatically granted to individuals who received the electricity social bonus by December 31st of the previous year. To apply for the electricity social bonus, interested parties must contact their reference energy commercializer, such as Endesa, Iberdrola, or Naturgy, and submit a form along with basic documentation, including DNI, empadronamiento (census registration), and income statements. The thermal social bonus is typically paid into the beneficiary's bank account between January and April.
