Hermosillo, Sonora - Residents of the La Caridad neighborhood in Hermosillo experienced a harrowing Wednesday morning as intense rainfall led to severe flooding, causing widespread damage to local infrastructure. A powerful current of water, unleashed by the heavy downpour, swept through the streets, displacing vehicles and tearing apart asphalt pavement. The most significant damage was observed on Lucrecia Ruiz de Ayón street, specifically between Iglesia Vieja and María Amparo. Eyewitnesses reported seeing cars being dragged by the force of the water and large fragments of the road's surface detaching. "It was like a river running through our street," stated one resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, describing the terrifying scene. Footage captured by local inhabitants shows the extent of the destruction, with massive potholes and broken asphalt littering the roadway in the aftermath. The area, already prone to heavy rain impacts, faced an unprecedented challenge, leaving many roads impassable and raising concerns about the long-term recovery efforts. Authorities have yet to release a full assessment of the damages or a timeline for repairs, as the community grapples with the immediate aftermath of the natural disaster.
