88% of Rescued Sea Turtles in Catalonia Have Ingested Plastic: CRAM Foundation Reveals Shocking Statistic
Catalonia, Spain: A shocking discovery at the CRAM Foundation reveals that 88% of rescued sea turtles have ingested macroplastics. The CRAM Foundation, dedicated to marine conservation, is caring for these turtles, many of whom suffer from intestinal blockages due to plastic ingestion. One such turtle, Adria, arrived at the facility in April after being accidentally caught by a fisherman. 'The ingestion of plastic can lead to intestinal obstructions, causing problems with feeding and reproduction, and can even be fatal,' explains Montse Pal Puig of the CRAM Foundation. The video shows the extent of the problem, with numerous containers filled with plastic removed from the turtles. This highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and action to combat plastic pollution in the Mediterranean Sea. The CRAM Foundation's work offers a beacon of hope in the fight to protect these vulnerable creatures.
