President Milei Announces Major Federal Police Reform, Aligning Force with FBI Standards
Buenos Aires, Argentina – President Javier Milei today announced a comprehensive reform of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), stating the force will be reoriented to align with the standards of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other leading international criminal investigation agencies. Speaking at a public event, President Milei outlined the government's decision to transform the PFA into a force primarily dedicated to criminal investigation. "We have decided to reform the historic Argentine Federal Police and convert it into a force mainly dedicated to criminal investigation," Milei stated. He emphasized that the state must possess superior technical capabilities compared to criminal organizations. "The state cannot have less technical capacity than drug traffickers and terrorists," he asserted. Under the new strategy, the PFA will shift its focus from traditional street patrolling to targeting the root causes of crime. "We will have a Federal Police no longer focused on patrolling the streets, but a Federal Police that works at the root of crime to eliminate it from its core," the President explained. He added that the aim is to identify and apprehend those who issue criminal orders, rather than solely focusing on those who carry them out. "A Federal Police that identifies and captures those who give the orders, and not just the petty thieves who execute them," Milei said. The President also pledged to make all necessary investments to support these reforms, concluding his address by stating, "May God bless Argentines, may the forces of heaven accompany us, and long live freedom, damn it!"
