Chipotle Portion Sizes: Social Experiment Reveals Potential Gender Discrepancy
A recent social experiment conducted by content creator Emily Joy Lemus has sparked discussion regarding potential biases in food service, specifically at Chipotle. Lemus ordered two identical burrito bowls, one under her own name and another under the name "Tom Holland," to observe if the name associated with the order influenced the portion size. Utilizing a digital food scale for objective measurement, Lemus found that the bowl ordered under "Tom Holland" consistently weighed more than her own. This marks the fourth time Lemus has conducted a similar experiment, though the first time with precise weighing. While the experiment was conducted at a single location and is not a scientific study, its results have led to online conversations about perceived gender-based discrepancies in customer service and portioning at fast-casual restaurants. Lemus expressed surprise at the consistent outcome, stating, "The scale doesn't lie." The findings prompt questions about unconscious biases that may affect service interactions.
