Guatemalan Public Ministry Takes Action in Alleged Baby Disappearance Case GUATEMALA CITY – The Public Ministry (MP) of Guatemala announced on Wednesday, September 10, that it will initiate legal proceedings against a woman who reported the disappearance of her newborn baby at the IGSS hospital in Escuintla. The decision comes after an extensive investigation revealed inconsistencies in the woman's claims. According to a statement from the MP’s Information and Press Department, forensic evaluations conducted by INACIF concluded that the woman did not exhibit any recent signs of pregnancy. "The medico-forensic evaluation practiced by INACIF concluded that the denunciante did not present cyclical signs of a prior pregnancy," an MP spokesperson stated. This finding directly contradicts her report of having given birth at the hospital in late August and subsequently losing her child. Based on these findings, the MP has determined that the alleged theft or disappearance of a newborn did not occur. Consequently, legal actions will be taken against the woman for the possible commission of the crimes of false reporting and prejudice to the State of Guatemala. The case has drawn significant public attention since the initial report of the baby's disappearance.
