AUSTIN, TX – Racial justice advocate Kimiya Factory delivered a powerful address today at the 'Texas Women Are Stronger Together' press conference, speaking out against proposed anti-trans bathroom bills in the state. Factory, founder of Black Freedom Factory, asserted that the rights of both cisgender and transgender women are being eroded by legislative actions, not by individuals in shared spaces. "My rights are being stripped away from me, not by trans women in the bathroom stalls during brief encounters, but in violent House sessions at mahogany wood tables by white, cisgender lawmakers, deciding my bodily autonomy and my trans sisters' bodily autonomy," Factory stated, drawing strong applause from attendees. She called upon cisgender women to leverage their privilege and stand in solidarity with their transgender counterparts. Factory highlighted the historical contributions of trans individuals to social justice movements, noting, "Trans folks have been at the front of Black Lives Matter protests, have been at the front of pro-immigration – it is time for us to stand in our privilege the way that trans folks have stood for us for centuries!" Factory concluded her speech by expressing profound gratitude to trans women for their sacrifices and for living authentically. "When we look at the Promised Land that Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of, I will embrace trans women in a tight hug and thank them for their sacrifice, for living in their truth, for living in their beauty, and for living in their freedom," she affirmed, ending with the Spanish phrases "Sí, se puede!" (Yes, we can!) and "Tu lucha es mi lucha!" (Your struggle is my struggle!).
