Peru's New Airport: Billions Spent, Yet Challenges Remain
The highly anticipated opening of Peru's new Jorge Chávez International Airport, a project costing over 8 billion soles, has been marred by reports of unfinished construction and significant operational challenges. While government officials celebrated the airport's inauguration, highlighting its modern infrastructure, several videos and accounts from travelers paint a different picture. One video, posted by Erlin Rojas, shows unfinished areas, including an unopened hotel. "There are still things that haven't been finished," Rojas states, pointing to the hotel as an example. The video further reveals that security system malfunctions caused significant delays, with one passenger reporting a 23-minute wait at immigration, far exceeding the expected 7 minutes. These reports raise questions about the airport's readiness and the efficiency of the project. Despite the setbacks, the government maintains that the airport represents a significant step forward for Peru's infrastructure and international connectivity.
