Hotelbuchungen gehackt: Diese Betrugsmasche kursiert auf WhatsApp
Derzeit versuchen Kriminelle wieder verstärkt, an Kreditkartendaten zu gelangen und nutzen hierfür gehackte Urlaubsbuchungen.
BERLIN – Travelers are being warned about a sophisticated phishing scam targeting users of the popular booking platform, Booking.com. The scam reportedly involves fraudsters contacting individuals who have recently made legitimate bookings, attempting to trick them into revealing credit card details. According to a recent public advisory, the scam unfolds after a user has successfully booked accommodation on the authentic Booking.com website. Shortly thereafter, the user receives a message, seemingly from the booked property, requesting a re-verification of their credit card information. This message often directs users to a fraudulent phishing website designed to steal their financial data. "This video is important for everyone who uses Booking.com," stated the advisor in the warning. "You should definitely save this video and send it to friends and family, otherwise many will fall for this scam." The warning highlights that the scammers possess accurate details, including the correct holiday period and even the name of the accommodation, making their messages appear highly credible. However, the accommodation itself has not sent these requests. To protect against this fraud, two key preventative measures are advised: 1. **Pay On-Site:** Opt to pay for your accommodation directly at the property upon arrival, rather than providing card details online in advance. 2. **Direct Verification:** If you receive any request for re-verification of payment details, directly call the accommodation or hotel using their official contact number (found independently, not from the suspicious message) to inquire if re-verification is truly necessary. "By doing this, you can protect yourself," the advisor concluded, urging widespread sharing of the information to minimize victims.
