Brazil's Green Initiative: Reverse Logistics System Tackles Waste
Brazil's Reverse Logistics System: A Step Towards Sustainability Brazil is making strides in sustainable waste management with its National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS). The policy establishes shared responsibility for the entire lifecycle of products, obligating manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers to implement reverse logistics systems. Currently, 13 material types have established reverse logistics systems in Brazil, each facing unique challenges, including the vastness of the country's territory. Marcelo Okamura, President of Inpev and Campo Limpo, sheds light on the process. "The farmer must, after using the packaging, perform a triple wash and return the packaging to a receiving unit. The distribution system must provide a location for this return." This highlights the collaborative nature of the system, involving all stakeholders. The system is not without its hurdles. However, the commitment to environmentally sound disposal of materials is a significant step towards a more sustainable future. The government's role in overseeing this process is crucial to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
