Pedro Delgado: 'Estoy en contra del genocidio, pero echar la culpa a quién no …
'Son otros organismos los que tienen que tomar medidas'.
Albacete, Spain – Former professional cyclist and current sports commentator, Perico Delgado, addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its implications during the presentation of the Gran Fondo Sierra de Albacete. Delgado stated unequivocally that he is "against the genocide in Gaza" and asserted that all participants in La Vuelta a España share this view. "All the riders who were there, like all of La Vuelta a España, are against what is happening in Gaza," Delgado remarked. However, Delgado also expressed strong criticism regarding the recent protests that led to the disruption of a Vuelta a España stage. He further extended his criticism to the Spanish government, led by Pedro Sánchez, for what he described as its secondary role in addressing the situation. Delgado argued that the conflict is a significant diplomatic problem that requires action from international organizations, rather than placing responsibility on individuals or sporting events. "It's natural law," Delgado commented, referring to the widespread opposition to the conflict. He questioned why actions were taken against Russia but not Israel, suggesting an inconsistency in international responses. He emphasized that shifting blame or focusing on entities without the capacity to resolve such complex issues is a way of "evading one's own responsibility" and merely "wanting to look good without being real with the situation." Delgado concluded by describing citizens as "unfortunate" for living with "enormous anguish and sorrow" due to the events, underscoring the profound emotional impact of the conflict on the general populace.
