‘I am irritated’: Walmart customer buys Reese’s Halloween candy. Then she bites…
A Washington Walmart customer believes the retailer sold year-old Halloween candy after biting into a 'dry' Reese's.
Poulsbo, WA A local shopper has raised concerns about the freshness of Halloween candy sold at a Walmart Supercenter, alleging that a recent purchase included 'year-old' items. The customer, who posted a video online, displayed a receipt from September 1, 2025, for a bag of Reese's assorted snack-size shapes. In the video, the shopper showed a bitten Reese's candy, noting, 'This chocolate is bloomed. I bit it, it's super dry.' She expressed frustration, stating, 'I would assume that this is like fresh Halloween candy, right? But it's not.' The customer further highlighted the absence of visible expiration dates on the candy packaging, leading to her conclusion about the product's age. The incident has sparked debate online, with some commenters suggesting that chocolate bloom is often due to temperature fluctuations rather than age. One user commented, 'Bloomed isn’t an age thing, it’s a temp thing,' while another added, 'There is a date, look again. It's not old, it went through a temp change. Just go return it.' Others defended Walmart, stating, 'Walmart doesn't hold candy in the backroom 'til the next year. Once the candy goes clearance it disappears off the shelves.' The customer later clarified in a comment, 'I'm sorry I couldn't find the date at the time of the post and of course I threw the bag away lol I didn’t realize this was going to be such a huge debate!' She expressed her disappointment, emphasizing that 'Reese’s holiday shapes are my favorite! They have the best chocolate to peanut butter ratio! I expected them to be fresh and tasty with creamy peanut butter! I think that’s fair!'
