
Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Strikes Peru, Causing Fatalities and Damage
Lima, Peru – A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck Peru on June 15th at approximately 11:35 AM local time. The seismic event, with its epicenter located southwest of Callao near the capital city of Lima, has resulted in at least one fatality and five injuries. The tremor was widely felt across the capital, leading to landslides, structural collapses, and significant damage to infrastructure. Authorities have confirmed the death of Jonathan Teofilo Ventura Vega, a 36-year-old mototaxist, who was tragically killed by a collapsing wall. Five other individuals have been hospitalized in Lima due to injuries sustained during the quake. The earthquake originated at a depth of 49 kilometers. Peruvian authorities have issued statements confirming that there is no tsunami risk, but they are maintaining a vigilant stance and continue to monitor the situation closely as assessments of the damage are ongoing.
