"Put it on Mercari for 3 times the price": Woman calls out scalpers for ruining…
"Resellers don’t just resell, they buy it all so you HAVE to buy from them.”
A recent social media video has brought to light growing consumer frustration over the scarcity of popular seasonal items, particularly during the Halloween shopping season. The video, uploaded by user MeganTheeMosher, details an incident at a HomeGoods store where an individual allegedly purchased multiple units of a viral Halloween decoration, believed to be for resale purposes. "I truly hate how TikTok has contributed to the scalper issue that we're seeing on second-hand selling apps," stated MeganTheeMosher in her video. She recounted arriving at HomeGoods before opening hours and observing a woman "bum-rush the employee" upon entry to immediately grab five of the same viral ghost-on-a-swing item. The woman was reportedly on the phone, discussing her acquisition of multiple items, seemingly encouraged by the person on the other end. MeganTheeMosher criticized the practice, questioning the need for multiple identical items "other than to scalp people for more money, put it on Mercari for three times the price." She expressed that such behavior "takes the fun out of everything," noting that items quickly become impossible to find once they go viral on platforms like TikTok. This trend, she argues, has made seasonal shopping unnecessarily stressful for regular consumers.
