Central Florida ICE Raid Targets Construction Workers at Retirement Community May 14, 2025 - In a joint operation involving Fox News and ICE agents, a worksite enforcement operation took place at a rapidly growing retirement community in Central Florida. The operation, described by ICE as consensual, involved questioning construction workers about their immigration status. Those unable to provide valid documentation were fingerprinted on-site. While many workers complied, over 30 fled the scene. A total of 33 arrests were made, with four individuals facing felony charges for re-entering the U.S. after deportation. "We've received a lot of tip line reporting on the hiring practices of a lot of companies in the area," stated Micah McCombs, an ICE agent involved in the operation. The operation marks the first worksite enforcement operation of its kind in Florida, and officials have indicated it will not be the last. The operation also included visits to local businesses to inform them of upcoming inspections. The operation highlights the ongoing challenges related to immigration enforcement and workplace compliance in the region. The large number of arrests and the escape of several workers underscore the complexities of such operations.
