Livonia, Michigan – A high-speed police chase involving a stolen vehicle concluded dramatically on a local highway yesterday, as Livonia Police Department officers successfully deployed a specialized 'wheel trap' device, also known as a grappler, to disable the car. The incident, captured on dashcam footage and shared by Fox News, shows the white sedan attempting to evade capture before the innovative tool brought it to a grinding halt. The footage reveals the wheel trap engaging with the rear wheel of the stolen vehicle, leading to the complete detachment of its back axle. Despite the severe damage, the device proved effective in preventing further pursuit and potential danger to the public. Eyewitnesses and online commentators have praised the use of the technology, with one user remarking, 'wheel trap is exellent invention,' and another stating, 'FINALLY SOMETHING BETTER THEN A 110mph PIT.'However, the incident also sparked debate regarding the extent of vehicle damage during recovery. Some commentators questioned the practicality of recovering a severely damaged car, with one asking, 'What good is it to recover a stolen car if you’re just gonna sit there while it gets all busted up?!' Despite these concerns, police officials often prioritize public safety and ending pursuits quickly, even if it results in vehicle damage. The driver of the stolen vehicle was subsequently apprehended.
