Severe Weather Unleashes Flash Floods Across the US
Severe Weather Prompts Flash Flood Emergencies Across Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Heavy rainfall and flooding have caused widespread damage and prompted flash flood emergencies across parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions of the United States. The FOX Weather meteorologist Haley Meier reported over 130 flood reports with flash flood emergencies declared in Allegany County, Maryland, and Greene and Madison counties in West Virginia. In West Virginia, Georges Creek surged to major flood stage, cresting at 12.41 feet in just a few hours, leading to numerous high-water rescues. Rainfall rates reached 2.5 inches per hour, with estimates of up to 6 inches of total rainfall in some areas. Meier stated, "A strong upper-level trough is moving from the west into the central US, setting the stage for severe storms across the Midwest." The severe weather is expected to continue for the next six days, with two separate systems bringing severe storm threats to more than 25 states. Authorities urge residents to stay informed, stay safe, and keep an eye on the forecast.
