Texas Battered by Severe Storms: Widespread Power Outages and Devastating Floods
Severe Thunderstorms Pummel Texas, Leaving Thousands Without Power and Triggering Flash Flood Threat Parts of Texas are reeling from the impact of powerful thunderstorms that swept through the state on Sunday, causing widespread damage and leaving tens of thousands of utility customers without power. The storms, which packed wind gusts of up to 100 mph and hail as large as grapefruits, left a trail of destruction in their wake. One FOX 4 Dallas reporter, Tisia Muzinga, described the scene in Bonham, Texas, where a local ice cream shop suffered significant roof damage. "Part of the roof was blown off," she reported, "...sheared away." The damage was so extensive that the shop was forced to close temporarily. The storms also brought torrential rainfall, leading to flash flooding in several areas. Payton May, another FOX 4 reporter, reported from East Dallas, near White Rock Lake, where significant flooding was observed. "The water has been receding maybe about 10, 15 yards," she noted, "...closer away from the roadways." She also described the chaotic conditions on the roads the previous night, with some drivers attempting to navigate flooded streets while others turned around. Beyond the immediate damage, a multi-day flash flood threat looms for much of Texas as heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the week. Authorities are urging residents to stay home and exercise caution. While there were no reports of serious injuries from the initial storm, the ongoing flood threat poses a significant concern.
