House Approves Trump's Massive Tax Cut Plan, Sending it to Senate
The United States House of Representatives passed a sweeping tax cut plan Thursday morning, sending the measure to the Senate for further consideration. The bill, nicknamed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" by Republicans, includes provisions to make permanent the individual and estate tax cuts enacted during Trump's first term. It also seeks to fulfill a 2024 campaign promise to not tax tips, overtime, and certain auto loan interest. However, to partially offset the cost, the bill also cancels some green energy initiatives and restricts eligibility for social programs. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the plan will add approximately $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. The vote was close, with 215 votes in favor and 214 against. 'This is a victory for the American people,' said one Republican representative, while a Democratic representative countered, 'This bill recklessly increases the national debt without addressing crucial social needs.' The Senate will now debate and potentially amend the bill before a final vote.
