Fireball Meteor Lights Up Night Sky Over China
A bright fireball meteor illuminated the night sky over Maoming, Guangdong province, China, on May 28, 2025. Dashcam footage captured the meteor's spectacular descent, its light shifting from a yellowish-orange to a vibrant blue-green. The intense brightness momentarily turned night into day, startling residents and causing animals to scatter. Gou Lijun, an expert from the National Astronomical Observatory, confirmed the event as a fireball meteor, resulting from a relatively large meteoroid entering the Earth's atmosphere and burning up. "It was much brighter than a typical meteor," stated one eyewitness. Authorities conducted inspections and reported no damage, urging calm amongst the populace. The event serves as a reminder of the awe-inspiring power of nature and the ongoing interest in celestial phenomena.
