Brazil's New Robocall Killer: Origem Verificada Offers Hope Against Phone Scams
Brazil combats robocalls with new identification system: Origem Verificada is a new system launched in Brazil to combat the nuisance of robocalls and fraudulent phone calls. Developed through a partnership between telecom operators and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the system identifies the caller's name and, in some cases, the reason for the call, even if the number is not saved in the recipient's phone. "It's a free service for consumers, and you don't need to install any app," explains Carol Prado, a reporter for G1. However, the system's effectiveness depends on the participation of companies making the calls. "The problem is that it depends on the adhesion of companies that make the calls, such as banks and call centers," Prado adds. While the service is currently limited by the small number of companies that have signed up, it represents a significant step towards protecting Brazilian consumers from unwanted and potentially harmful calls.
