98 Years: Justice Served in Rafael Miguel Murder Case
Nearly six years after the brutal murder of 22-year-old actor Rafael Miguel and his parents, João and Miriam, in São Paulo, Brazil, the justice system delivered a verdict. Paulo Cupertino, the perpetrator, was sentenced to 98 years in prison for the triple homicide. The trial brought forth emotional testimony from the victim's aunt, Maria Gorete Silva, who expressed relief but also lingering fear. Cupertino himself, during his testimony, shockingly denied any involvement, stating, "It's impossible that I committed this crime. I don't have to ask for forgiveness because I never carry this in my heart. I don't have nightmares, I don't dream, I have no regrets. Because the image of me killing Rafael, Mrs. Miriam, and Mr. João doesn't come to me." His daughter, Isabela, who was dating Rafael at the time, also testified, recounting the traumatic events of that Sunday in 2019. The crime scene, a street corner in the south zone of São Paulo, was also shown in the video. The lengthy sentence brings a sense of closure to the family, though the pain of their loss will undoubtedly endure.
