Petrobras Cuts Gasoline Prices: Relief for Brazilian Consumers?
Petrobras Cuts Gasoline Prices: A 7.3% Reduction Since December 2022 Brazil's state-controlled oil company, Petrobras, announced a significant reduction in gasoline prices for distributors, effective June 3rd, 2025. The move, a decrease of R$0.17 per liter, brings the average price of gasoline A to R$2.85. This translates to a reduction of R$0.12 per liter of gasoline C for consumers. The company cited the sustained decrease in international oil prices as the primary reason for the price cut. "Considering the mandatory blend of 27% anhydrous ethanol and 73% gasoline A for the composition of gasoline C sold at gas stations, the Petrobras share in the consumer price will be R$2.08/liter," stated Petrobras in an official release. This represents a cumulative reduction of R$0.22 per liter since December 2022, a total decrease of 7.3%. While other fuel prices remain unchanged, this reduction is expected to provide some relief to Brazilian consumers who have been grappling with high fuel costs. The decision underscores Petrobras' responsiveness to market fluctuations and its commitment to price adjustments based on global trends. The long-term impact on consumer prices and the broader economy remains to be seen, but the immediate effect is a welcome drop in the cost of gasoline.
