Paraná's Tech Breakthrough: Smartphones and Anklets Protect Women from Abuse
Paraná Launches Groundbreaking Tech to Protect Women from Abuse Paraná, Brazil is taking a significant step in protecting women from domestic violence. The state's Public Security Secretariat is piloting a new monitoring system that uses electronic anklets and smartphones to alert women when their abusers are nearby. The system, currently being tested at Curitiba's Casa da Mulher Brasileira, will send an alert to the woman's smartphone if the abuser comes within 500 meters. If the abuser gets even closer, the anklet will automatically record audio and video, sending it directly to law enforcement. "This is a very important first step," said a spokesperson for the program. "It will help many women." Similar systems are in place in Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal District. The Paraná system, however, is unique in its automatic video and audio recording features. The program's success could lead to its adoption nationwide, offering a powerful new tool in the fight against domestic violence.
