Brazil Faces Widespread Vaccine Shortages Despite Improvements
Vaccine Shortages Plague One-Third of Brazilian Municipalities A recent survey by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) reveals a concerning reality: 33.7% of Brazilian municipalities are grappling with vaccine shortages. While this represents an improvement compared to a similar study conducted in September 2024, the CNM maintains a cautious stance. The May 2025 report, encompassing data from over 1,400 cities across all states, highlights the persistent challenges in vaccine distribution. "One in three municipalities is facing shortages," stated a CNM representative. "While we see some improvement, 33% of municipalities reported a worsening of the situation compared to last year, and a concerning 25% reported vaccine shortages in all three surveys." The Ministry of Health responded to the report, stating that "the vaccine delivery schedule is being maintained" and that "new shipments of dengue, varicella, and other vaccines are planned." However, the persistent shortages, particularly for varicella vaccines (with only 74% coverage), remain a significant concern. The video also highlights the issue of expired vaccines in some health facilities. The situation underscores the urgency of addressing vaccine distribution challenges to ensure the continued control of preventable diseases.
