Recife Fire Claims One Life, Multiple Injuries Reported A devastating fire ripped through a residential building in the Encruzilhada neighborhood of Recife, Brazil, on Monday morning, claiming the life of one man and injuring several others. The incident unfolded around 9:00 AM, sending plumes of black smoke billowing from a third-floor apartment of the Edifício Manoel Costa building. "Images sent to g1 show flames and black smoke coming from the window of a third-floor apartment," reported g1 news. Firefighters arrived swiftly, deploying seven units to combat the blaze and rescue trapped residents. Among those rescued was a 29-day-old baby. The fire was brought under control around 9:45 AM. Tragically, one man, identified as Wildson Cruz, succumbed to smoke inhalation. He was found on the building's rooftop and despite receiving immediate medical attention from the SAMU (Mobile Emergency Care Service), he could not be revived. "He suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and unfortunately did not survive," confirmed SAMU representative Marcos Cavalcanti. Five other individuals were rescued alive, including the infant and their family members. Among the injured were a 42-year-old woman treated at the scene, a 39-year-old man transported to Hospital Santa Joana, the 29-day-old baby also taken to Hospital Santa Joana, and two women, ages 39 and 61, who were sent to the Amaury Coutinho Polyclinic. The conditions of the injured are currently unknown. Two family dogs also perished in the fire. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety and preparedness. Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
