Bolsonaro Aide's Testimony Reveals Details of 2022 Coup Attempt
Brazil's Supreme Court commenced hearings on Monday, June 9th, 2025, for eight individuals accused of involvement in a 2022 coup attempt. Mauro Cid, former aide-de-camp to ex-President Jair Bolsonaro, was the first to testify, having reached a plea bargain with the Federal Police. Cid explained to Justice Alexandre de Moraes the necessity of four separate testimonies, stating, "These other testimonies came from the Federal Police's summons, mostly to clarify points from the first three days of testimony, to confirm facts, and nothing more." The accusations against Cid include acting as Bolsonaro's spokesperson and using hacked material to undermine the electoral process. The STF's investigation continues, with the hearings expected to shed more light on the events of 2022.
