São Paulo Buses Under Attack: Over 120 Vehicles Vandalized in Two Weeks Amid Rising Insecurity
São Paulo is grappling with a surge in bus vandalism, with authorities reporting 125 vehicles damaged over the past two weeks. The majority of these incidents occurred between 8 PM and 11 PM, according to information from the Public Security Secretariat. Footage from inside a bus, obtained by the Diário do Transporte, shows the moment an object struck a window, causing visible alarm among passengers who quickly moved away from the impact site. This particular incident involved a bus on line 5129-41, operating between Jardim Miriam and Santo Amaro, near Avenida Cupecê in Jardim Prudência. Another vehicle from the same line was vandalized on Avenida Roque Petroni Júnior, close to Marginal Pinheiros. Police confirmed that investigators are actively visiting affected locations, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing security camera footage to identify those responsible for the attacks. On Wednesday, Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) stated that in addition to increasing patrols in the affected areas, the city is analyzing images from the Smart Sampa program to assist in identifying the perpetrators. Damaged buses are currently out of service, awaiting maintenance, impacting public transport availability.
