Brazilian Model Andressa Urach's Eye Color Surgery Sparks Health Warnings: Experts Detail Risks of Irreversible Procedure Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian model and influencer Andressa Urach has publicly shared her regrets and pain following an eye color change surgery performed in France. The procedure, which is prohibited for aesthetic purposes in Brazil, has drawn significant attention to the potential dangers of such interventions. Urach, who underwent the surgery in late June to achieve blue eyes, reported experiencing pain and teary eyes just three days after the operation, expressing deep regret over her decision. Ophthalmologists consulted by g1 have issued strong warnings regarding the procedure's irreversible nature and severe health risks. According to experts, changing eye color in individuals with healthy vision can lead to a range of complications, including eye infections, restricted visual fields, and the development of photophobia (hypersensitivity to light). Dr. César Motta, director of the Brazilian Society of Ophthalmology, explained that various methods exist to permanently alter eye color, such as artificial iris implants, laser depigmentation, and corneal pigmentation. He stressed that all these methods carry grave consequences. The most alarming potential outcomes include significant vision reduction, increased intraocular pressure which can lead to glaucoma, cataracts, corneal lesions, and even permanent blindness. Dr. Wilma Lelis, president of the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology, further elaborated that such procedures can severely hinder the diagnosis of future ocular diseases and complicate necessary eye surgeries. The medical community strongly advises against these aesthetic eye color change procedures due to their high risk of irreversible damage and potential for lifelong vision impairment.
