Galician Pharmacy's Revival: A European Cultural Gem
Doade Pharmacy in Beariz, Galicia, Finds New Life as Part of European Cultural Route Beariz, Galicia – A historic pharmacy in the small village of Doade, in the municipality of Beariz, Galicia, has been given a new lease on life. Closed since the 1960s, the pharmacy has been painstakingly restored and is now a member of the European Cultural Route Aromas Salutis, a network celebrating the history of European pharmacies and herbal medicine. The restoration, completed in 2014, was supported by the Beariz council. The pharmacy is now a significant attraction for the region. "This is a jewel of Beariz," says Tomás José Sancho, council member of Beariz, "and now it is on the European cultural map." The council has also announced plans to create a herb garden featuring traditional medicinal plants, further enhancing the site's appeal and educational value. The project aims to increase the divulgative richness of this small village. The reopening of the Doade pharmacy is a testament to the power of community preservation and cultural tourism. It is a success story of how a small village can leverage its heritage to attract visitors and boost its economy.
