Galician Workshops Cultivate Sustainable Agriculture
Oleiros, Galicia, Spain: Workshops Promote Sustainable Agriculture A new initiative in Oleiros, Galicia, is empowering residents to embrace sustainable and ecological farming practices. Organized by Sacha's Rua de Ribeira and Amigas da Terra, the workshops provide hands-on training in ecological cultivation techniques. "Basically, it's about maintaining the flora and fauna around us," explains Lucia Ferreira, a farmer and instructor involved in the project. "It's a collaborative effort to keep pests under control." Participants learn not only practical skills but also the importance of understanding the natural cycles of plants and the environment. Sabela Rubio of Amigas da Terra adds, "We teach people to work the land, motivating them to cultivate their own gardens, and we also teach them the importance of eating local produce." The workshops represent a growing movement towards sustainable living and community-based food production in Galicia, fostering environmental awareness and local economic development.
