Galicia Cracks Down on Spam Calls: New Law Bans Mobile Number Marketing
Galicia Bans Commercial Calls from Mobile Phones Galicia, Spain, is taking a significant step to combat phone scams and protect its citizens' privacy. Starting June 7th, 2025, a new law prohibits commercial calls from mobile numbers. This measure aims to curb unsolicited advertising calls and reduce the risk of fraud. The new regulation mandates that all advertising calls must originate from landlines with 800 or 900 prefixes and be made from within Spain. This move is intended to make it easier to trace and track fraudulent calls and hold companies accountable. In addition, companies are now prohibited from making calls from foreign numbers and from finalizing contracts over the phone. The government has allocated up to €2 million in penalties for non-compliant operators. "I believe this law is crucial for data protection," says one Galician resident interviewed in the G24 report. "Companies shouldn't be able to call without my consent." Another resident, however, voiced skepticism, stating, "I think it won't change much. Lots of talk, but little actual effectiveness." The new law represents a significant effort by the Galician government to protect its citizens from fraudulent and intrusive phone calls. While the long-term effectiveness remains to be seen, the initiative signals a commitment to consumer protection and privacy.
