Ábalos Condemns Home Search Amidst Corruption Probe
Former Spanish Minister Ábalos Speaks Out After Home Search Valencia, Spain – José Luis Ábalos, the former Spanish Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, addressed the press following a search of his home by the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard. The search, part of a secret investigation into alleged irregularities in public works contracts, focused on documentation related to contract awards. Ábalos, visibly frustrated, stated, "The social condemnation, I already have that." He also claimed that the investigation contained "more suspicions than evidence." The search included the cloning of Ábalos's phone and the seizure of digital memory devices. This is not the first time Ábalos has faced scrutiny; he is also under investigation by the Supreme Court for alleged crimes related to the awarding of contracts for face masks during the pandemic. The investigation is ongoing.
