Galicia Expands Medical School Beyond Santiago
Galicia to Decentralize Medical School Teaching Galicia's regional government and its three public universities are collaborating on a plan to decentralize medical school education. The initiative aims to expand practical, and potentially theoretical, classes to A Coruña and Vigo from the fourth year of the program. This move seeks to integrate the expertise and resources of hospitals like CHUAC into the medical curriculum. "There are no red lines," stated Antonio López, rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), emphasizing the willingness to collaborate. However, the University of A Coruña (UDC) continues to pursue its separate proposal for a new medical school, a plan that differs from the regional government's and USC's approach. The collaborative effort involves a working group representing all stakeholders, chaired by the rector of the University of Vigo. The goal is to build upon a previous agreement from 2015, potentially encompassing both theoretical and practical teaching. The plan is expected to improve clinical training opportunities for students across Galicia.
