Gardening Enthusiast Shares Innovative 'Bulb Lasagna' Technique for Extended Blooms. A popular online gardening personality, known as "Gardening with Ish," recently unveiled a comprehensive guide to creating a "bulb lasagna" in a pot, a method promising continuous floral displays from late winter through early summer. The technique involves layering different varieties of bulbs that bloom at various times, ensuring a staggered release of color over several months. In his instructional video, Ish demonstrated how to select a deep pot with proper drainage and then strategically place allium bulbs at the bottom for late-season flowering. Above these, he layered daffodil bulbs for mid-spring blooms, topping them with crocus bulbs designed to emerge in early spring. "The idea is to get a staggered release date of those amazing flowers, meaning you can keep a display going from late January all the way until May time," Ish explained. Beyond the layering process, Ish offered a practical tip for protecting the buried bulbs from garden pests. He advised planting winter-flowering primroses or pansies on the top layer of soil. "This gives you a good amount of color, so you're not looking at a boring empty pot, and stopping squirrels, rabbits, and all sorts from digging in there," he stated. This dual-purpose approach not only provides immediate visual interest but also acts as a natural deterrent. The guide aims to make professional-looking floral displays accessible and low-maintenance for gardeners of all experience levels.
