Brits urged to put Vapour Rub in gardens
Brits have been urged by one life hack tester to put Vapour Rub in their gardens to keep one nasty pest away from their plants.
Cambridgeshire, UK – A local gardener, known online as "gardeningellen," has embarked on an intriguing experiment to combat slugs in her raised garden beds. The gardener is testing the efficacy of VapoRub, a common over-the-counter topical ointment, as a deterrent against these notorious garden pests. In a video uploaded on September 27, 2024, the gardener demonstrated applying VapoRub with a cotton bud along the wooden edges of her raised beds and onto bamboo canes placed near her seedlings. "I have seen some people across the internet using VapoRub as a deterrent for slugs, so I thought I'd give it a go," she explained in the video. The premise behind this method is that slugs are repelled by the strong scent of the ointment. The experiment is being conducted in her allotment in Cambridgeshire, where she is currently in her second season of gardening. She noted that she chose to apply the rub to a bamboo cane as well, rather than the entire large bed, to observe its effectiveness. Viewers have been encouraged to follow her updates to see if her seedlings survive and if VapoRub proves to be a viable solution for slug control. The gardening community is keenly watching to see the results of this unconventional approach.
