Kazakhstan: Lawyer Challenges Multi-Million Compensation Demand
Kazakhstan: Lawyer Disputes Compensation Claim in Askent Case Almaty, Kazakhstan – A legal dispute is unfolding in Almaty over compensation claims related to the case of Darhan Askent. The lawyer representing Askent, in a recently released video, strongly contested the demands for both moral and material damages filed by the family of Sherzat Polat. The lawyer stated, "We disagree. The claim for material damages requires original receipts and fiscal checks, which the legal representatives of the claimants have failed to provide to the court." He further argued that the claimed amount for moral damages is excessive and unjustifiable, given Askent's circumstances as an orphan without steady employment and his own injuries sustained in the incident. The lawyer added, "My client, Darhan Askent, cannot afford this sum. He is an orphan; he has no father, no mother, and no permanent job. Moreover, he himself suffered in this case. His eye is damaged and now he cannot find a job." The defense plans to file a countersuit in response. This case highlights the complexities of legal proceedings and the importance of proper documentation in supporting claims of damages.
