Kazakhstan and Bulgaria Strengthen Ties with New Agreements Astana, Kazakhstan – June 9, 2025 – Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Rumen Radev of Bulgaria met today in Astana for talks focused on expanding bilateral cooperation. The meeting yielded significant results, with five memorandums of understanding signed, covering areas such as energy, transport, and green technologies. President Tokayev highlighted Bulgaria's importance as a partner in Southeastern Europe, noting a substantial increase in trade between the two countries. "In the first four months of 2024, our mutual trade exceeded $83 million," he stated, emphasizing a fourfold increase over the previous year. Over 60 Bulgarian companies are currently operating in Kazakhstan. President Radev reciprocated the sentiment, calling Kazakhstan a strategic partner in the region. He expressed admiration for Kazakhstan's achievements in technology, education, and economics, adding, "Your successes in recent years are impressive: rapid economic growth, breakthroughs in innovation, science, education, and high technologies." The agreements included collaborations between Astana and Sofia, and the development of logistics through Bulgarian ports.
