“Coach employees be like ‘if I can’t have it no one can’”: Texas dumpster diver…
A prolific dumpster diver says she was surprised to find slashed handbags while looking for items at Coach.
A recent viral video by content creator GlamourDDive has brought to light the controversial practice of luxury brands discarding and intentionally damaging their unsold merchandise. The video, uploaded on September 25, 2025, documents a "dumpster diving" expedition at a mall in the United States, where the creator discovered a significant quantity of items from Michael Kors and Coach. Initially, the creator found numerous Michael Kors products, including sandals, a denim bucket hat, scarves, and wallets, all seemingly new and undamaged, discarded in a dumpster. "This is insane," the creator remarked, highlighting the perfect condition of the items. However, the situation escalated when the creator attempted to access the dumpster behind a Coach store. Security personnel confronted the individual, with one officer reportedly asking, "Does it look like they homeless or what?" The creator was subsequently "kicked out" from the premises. Despite the confrontation, the video later showcased several Coach items, including handbags and wallets, that had been retrieved. In stark contrast to the Michael Kors finds, these items were intentionally slashed or otherwise damaged. The creator explained, "They slashed them up so you can't, I guess, resell them or try to return them or something for money." One white Coach bag, for instance, had a "reallyyy small stain" described as a lipstick mark, which the brand deemed sufficient reason for destruction. Another wallet was slashed through multiple layers. The video has sparked discussions online about brand waste and sustainability, raising questions about why luxury goods are destroyed rather than donated or recycled.
