10 Outdated Home Trends To Leave Behind, According To HGTV's Biggest Stars - Ho…
HGTV stars have some of the best tips for creating a well-designed space. These are the trends that they recommend avoiding and leaving in the past.
In a recent video, renowned interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent shared their top six favorite elements for home design, offering valuable insights for anyone looking to refresh their living spaces. The duo, known for their distinct yet complementary styles, emphasized the importance of incorporating pieces that add character and a sense of history. "We always reach for wicker," stated Nate Berkus, highlighting its versatility for everything from light fixtures to sofas. Jeremiah Brent concurred, adding, "It adds instant warmth and texture to any room." Vintage Italian lighting was another key recommendation. "There's something about the craftsmanship and history of these pieces that just elevates a space," Berkus explained. The designers also advocated for the use of green in interiors, whether through paint, accents, or plants. "Any opportunity to bring nature into the backdrop is beautiful," Brent noted. Tan limestone was surprisingly on their list. "I know that sounds crazy because it was all over everywhere in the '90s," Berkus admitted, "but I think like a limestone counter, limestone coffee table, is super interesting again to me. I'm not sure why." Brent added, "I like honed. Not like shiny limestone." Indoor trees were another favorite, with Berkus expressing, "I've always loved having a tree in our living room or in our home." Finally, architectural salvage rounded out their list. "One thing that Jeremiah and I always reach for, if we have an opportunity to put in a fireplace, we'll pull an old fireplace," Berkus shared. "Anything that's been pulled out of something, it adds instant patina and character to a space." The designers encouraged viewers to tune into "The Nate and Jeremiah Home Project" on HGTV for more design advice.
