Volcanic Eruption Aftermath: Hundreds of Dead Fish Found in Negros Occidental Rivers
Following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, a concerning event unfolded in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental. Three days after the volcanic activity, residents discovered a large number of dead fish in several local rivers. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) confirmed the incident, attributing the fish deaths to muddy stream flow caused by recent heavy rainfall. Adrian Prietos, reporting for GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, stated, "The rain in the past few days is said to be the cause of the muddy stream flow, according to PHIVOLCS." The OCD is closely monitoring the affected waterways and urging residents to avoid contact with the contaminated water. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential environmental consequences of volcanic eruptions and the importance of following safety guidelines.
