EDSA Rehabilitation: What Commuters Need to Know
EDSA Rehabilitation: Rerouting and Disruptions Ahead Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will announce details next week concerning the EDSA rehabilitation project. The project, which is expected to last 18 months to two years, will involve significant rerouting of traffic. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon stated, "This is not a complete solution to the traffic problem; it's a step in the right direction." The rehabilitation will proceed by segment and lane, starting with the Pasay to Shaw Boulevard section. While the EDSA bus carousel will remain operational, concerns remain about the impact on businesses and commuters. One truck driver, Romnick Jugo, expressed worry about reduced income due to potential delays. The agencies plan to implement specific lane allocations for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles to ease congestion during the rehabilitation. The project aims to improve the long-term condition of EDSA, despite the inevitable short-term disruptions.
