

High-Profile Arrest: Philippine Congressman Apprehended in Timor-Leste
Former Philippine Representative Arnie Teves Arrested in Timor-Leste Former Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves, wanted in the Philippines on multiple murder charges, has been arrested in Timor-Leste. The arrest took place at a compound belonging to the Timor-Leste Ministry of Interior. Footage of the arrest, courtesy of AXL Teves, shows Teves being apprehended by authorities. Teves is accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in March 2023. "The Department of Justice is working closely with Timor-Leste authorities to secure Teves's return to the Philippines," said a DOJ spokesperson in a press statement. The DOJ is currently awaiting Timor-Leste's decision on whether to deport or extradite Teves. Teves's lawyer has yet to comment publicly on the arrest. The arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into Governor Degamo's murder. The Philippines awaits the legal processes in Timor-Leste to bring Teves back to face justice.
