High-Profile Arrest: Philippine Congressman Apprehended in Timor-Leste

Former Philippine Representative Arnie Teves Arrested in Timor-Leste Former Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves, wanted in the Philippines on multiple murder charges, has been arrested in Timor-Leste. Teves is accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in March 2023. "The Department of Justice is working closely with Timor-Leste authorities to secure Teves's return to the Philippines," said a DOJ spokesperson in a press statement. The DOJ is currently awaiting Timor-Leste's decision on whether to deport or extradite Teves. Teves's lawyer has yet to comment publicly on the arrest.
