License Plate Shenanigans: Over 50 Motorists Face Charges in Philippine NCAP Evasion
More than 50 motorists in the Philippines are facing legal action after being caught attempting to evade the No Contact Apprehension (NCAP) system by covering or removing their license plates. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has filed complaints, and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to issue show-cause orders. "We are filing complaints against these motorists for violating traffic laws," said an MMDA spokesperson. The LTO executive director, Atty. Greg Pua, stated that those found guilty could face imprisonment of six months to two years. A coalition called "Stop NCAP Coalition" is petitioning the Supreme Court to suspend NCAP, arguing that its implementation is flawed and needs improvement. The MMDA reported over 5,400 traffic violations in just one week. This highlights the ongoing debate surrounding NCAP's effectiveness and fairness in the Philippines.
