Inflation Drives Up Philippine Private Hospital Prices by 5%
The rising cost of healthcare is impacting Filipinos nationwide. A recent report by GMA News reveals that private hospital services have increased by 5% due to inflation. This increase is placing an immense burden on patients, particularly those without extensive financial resources. Juvy Vidal, a breast cancer patient, shared her struggles in paying her hospital bills, stating, "Nakakakaba, baka hindi ko makaya ito." Dr. Jose Rene de Grano, president of PHAPI, explained that the price increase is due to rising costs of supplies and equipment, and the need to compete with government subsidies. The government provides a monthly average of ₱35,000 to patients, while private hospitals previously averaged ₱15,000. Dr. de Grano emphasized that "We have no choice but to slightly increase prices to sustain operations." The report underscores the urgent need for affordable healthcare solutions in the Philippines.
